The Administrator of the National Judicial Institute NJI, Hon. Justice Babatunde Adeniran Adejumo, OFR has urged the newly appointed judges of the Superior Courts of Record to imbibe the culture of integrity, that their new role as judicial officers requires independence of mind, discipline of character, patience in decision-making, and a constant awareness of the public trust reposed in the Courts.
Justice Adejumo made the remarks at the 2026 Induction Course for the newly appointed judges of the Superior Courts of Record, held at the National Judicial Institute, Abuja, with a powerful call for integrity and lifelong learning.
Delivering the welcome address, Justice Adejumo congratulated the newly appointed judicial officers on their elevation, describing their appointments as recognition of competence, integrity, and commitment to justice.
NJI Administrator explained that the induction course was carefully designed to guide participants through the transition into judicial office, exposing them to the ethical, institutional, and practical dimensions of judging. He urged them to engage actively and learn from one another, stressing that judicial education is a lifelong pursuit. He reaffirmed the NJI’s commitment to continuous education and capacity-building initiatives for judicial officers.
In her keynote address, Chief Justice Kekere-Ekun described the induction course as a defining rite of passage for newly appointed judges. The CJN stressed that modern judges must be more than sound lawyers; they must also be ethical leaders, case managers, guardians of constitutional values, and administrators capable of handling complex judicial responsibilities.
The CJN reminded participants that judicial appointment is the beginning of a lifelong journey of learning and integrity. She urged them to uphold public confidence in the judiciary through exemplary conduct, fidelity to the judicial oath, unwavering commitment to judicial independence, and continuous learning.
The opening ceremony concluded with group photographs, providing participants and judicial leaders an opportunity to commemorate the beginning of what promises to be a transformative learning experience for Nigeria's newest members of the Bench.
As the induction programme unfolds in the coming days, participants are expected to engage in intensive sessions to deepen their understanding of judicial ethics, leadership, case management, emerging legal developments, and the enduring principles underpinning the administration of justice in Nigeria.
